Bunal | Stick Fighting

Bunal | Stick Fighting
Powered by MyPagerank.Net
  • Bunal (Stick Fighting) is a Cebuano term that could mean the weapon itself (either as a wood, hard plastic, metal or any material that has an elongated shape regardless of the length, size, color, diameter, or made); it could also mean the way these weapons are being systematically used in fighting. But what we are about to write is the stick fighting system or method taught by Jose Go Milan, the PalakaBanate. This stick fighting system or method was derived from Anciong Bacon’s Balintawak. Anciong Bacon is a very good friend of Joe Go Milan. Joe Go had special sessions with Anciong himself apart from other students of Anciong. They tried to refine Anciong's balintawak. With his respect to Anciong, Joe Go never wanted to take Balintawak from Anciong. In fact, PalakBanate has been created due to the concern that many Filipinos from the North of Philippines took the name Balintawak for their stick fighting group at that time though never have they been students of Anciong. To preserve the Balintawak of Anciong especially the principles. Joe Go asked Anciong permission to keep its principles under the banner of Banate. PalakaBanate has never been taught outside of the Tat Kon Tou circles. In fact, it came out during the last years of Joe Go. His sole intention was not to spread Banate for respect of the great art of Anciong's Balintawak.

  • Today, many Tat Kon Tou practitioner are keeping Banate in their own circles.
  • Joe Go with his extraordinary gift tried to compressed the stick fighting system taking many of the strikes and forms out, trying to leave only the practical and effective strikes and forms for PalakaBanate. Though it is a fact that Joe Go also did the same to Tat Kon Tou making it more refined until it created a new fighting system called GoKoSha.
