Pangamutis a term in Cebu, Philippines, which means to describe A Person's Way or Knowledge of Defending Oneself. Usually, you may hear the Cebuanos say to a person: "Maayo siya mangamut. (He has a good way of defending himself.)" or "Naa siyay pangamut. (He has a way of defending himself.)" Pangamut is also a generic term for being skillful---that is being skillful in cooking, carpentry, mechanic, and more so with self-defense.
Pangamut is not the name of our group. We are practitioners without a name; it is our pastime, an exercise, a hobby. It is just like watching movie for us that we don't find the need to brand ourselves with a name. Again, Pangamut is just a generic term that may describe one's way of defending oneself---be it inknife fighting, stick fighting, sungay, or bare hands.
The Knife Fighting came from Gorio Ceniza. Venson Villamala is one of Gorio's students together with Cronnie Cabatingan.
The Stick Fighting is that of Jose Go Milan (Joe Goe). The official name is PalakaBanate (otherwise known as Banate). Banate (the stick fighting of Joe Go) has not been taught to many Tat Kon Tou practitioners. Banate was introduced by Joe Go only at the latter days of the Tat Kon Tou era.
Sungay has been taught during the entire Tat Kon Tou period in Cebu. Sungay is a deer's horn used as a deadly weapon during the Martial Law years.
Tat Kon Tou is a form of Kung Fu, Chinese boxing, grappling, and street fighting founded by Jose Go Milan. Tat Kon Tou later evolved and many new fighting methods and principles came out from it like Banate and GokoSha.
GokoSha is offered mostly to higher Tat Kon Tou practioners.
